Welcome to the Curwensville Community Center website. We have been serving the Curwensville community since 1969. We do not require that you belong to any particular affiliation or possess any previous memberships to make use of our facilities. We do ask that you support our organization by donating and by attending our fundraising activities. Please check our "Current Fundraisers" page often
October 2011: Wow - what a year it's been!!! The center has received $124,000 in donations, which has been used to remodel and update the center..... From the moment you walk up to the building, you begin to see the upgrades that have been made. The exterior doors have been replaced. The building has been painted. Soffit and fascia were installed and the rain spouting was replaced.
The inside of the building has also been upgraded. The old floor contained asbestos and had to be removed and new flooring has been installed throughout the building. To help with heating costs, insulation has been placed in the ceiling. Our kitchen is now state of the art with double stoves/ovens, double sinks, a large fridge, dishwasher and microwave, as well as new cabinets and countertops. New lighting has been installed throughout the building. New water heaters have also been installed. The Men's restroom has been converted to a family handicapped restroom. New tables and chairs have been purchased.
As you can see from our original list of projects needed to be completed (listed below), we have made a lot of progress. This is a center our community can be proud of. Thank you to the citizens, local businesses and community groups of Curwensville who have supported the Community Center in this fundraising drive and have helped to keep this vital community center open and running.
There are still three projects that we hope to complete as our fundraising drive continues: New windows, a new heating system and upgrading the small snack area.
A message from the Board:
(May 2009)
The Curwensville Community Center Board would like to take this opportunity to announce our Fundraising Drive.
The one-story building located at 11 Stadium Drive has served as a hub for the community for more than 40 years for meetings, banquets, non-profit auctions, wedding receptions, bloodmobiles, Little League baseball and midget football sign-ups, dances and many other activities that support the welfare of the community.
Although the Board receives a stipend from the United Way, the cost of maintenance, repair and heating of the buildings have far exceeded this amount. We have applied for four separate grants to ease the pain of the fund-raising drive, but the grants have not been acquired.
One upgrade, the attic insulation, has already been completed at a cost of approximately $5,000.00. The second upgrade, exterior doors, has been completed at a cost of over $10,000.00. Through the generosity of people in the community, these two upgrades have been made possible.
However, we are still in need of $200,000.00 to do the following:
1. New flooring and baseboards
2. Interior doors and window replacement
3. Kitchen renovation with new appliances
4. Paint and other miscellaneous repairs
5. New heating/air conditioning system
Due to continued increases in the heating and electricity costs, the Board has set another goal: to install a geothermal heat system. This system would provide air conditioning for increased use in the summer and reduce air pollutants while reducing costs.
This funddrive will continue for 3 years or until the goals are met. Any donation will be appreciated, whether in the form of a pledge or a one-time gift. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Duane at 814-236-2901 any time.
